As California gears towards a June 15th reopening, restaurants and cafes are getting ready to serve customers at 100% capacity. Many business owners in Santa Monica prefer to keep their outdoor dining area as they slowly recover from the pandemic. The city of Santa Monica proposes to extend their parklet program till the end of the year to support local restaurants; starting 2022, the city will charge for use of that public space at a reasonable rate if the ordinance gets passed.

USC announced its Wellness Day schedule at the start of the semester replacing mid-March spring breaks, lowering the risk of transferring the virus. However, most Trojans, as suggested on social media, agreed that the school’s adjustment only caused more stress and frustration. Some are still traveling to favorite vacation spots while Chief Health Officer encourages fewer trips and gatherings.

Businesses have struggles as a result of COVID-19. A recent study hows that 53% of black-owned business owners had revenues drop by half. We talked to two local store owners on their opinions of this emerging inequality. Also, Entertainment Tonight reporter Kevin Frazier shared his ideas on the changes in the entertainment industry.

After the tragedy of nine student deaths from August to November hit the campus, multiple community events and different organizations have placed mental health care as the priority in need of addressing.
This is my final story for JOUR307 and it took my over a month to reseach as well as film possible interviewees. I'm glad that I finally finished this package with great commitment.
